10 Simple Tips for Better Workout Recovery

Sleep More

A good night’s sleep is absolutely crucial for your body to recover from exercise. The key is to sleep at least 8 hours a night consistently, because contrary to popular belief, it’s pretty hard for your body to ‘catch up’ on lost sleep.

Hydrate

Drinking enough water before, during and after your workout will help your body work at full capacity. Dehydrated muscles, especially, can be less flexible and more prone to injury to make sure to drink plenty of water.

Eat Protein

Throw a shake or bar into your gym bag. Protein is the key macro-nutrient that helps you build strong, lean muscles and keep your body working at top performance. Eat healthy protein in the morning and evening, plus before and after your workout.

Take Magnesium

CBD might be one of the most effective natural supplements for active people but don’t forget about magnesium. Low levels of magnesium can make your muscles feel sore and reduce performance. Tip: Buy from a USDA Certified Organic brand.

Stretch

When you exercise, train and work out your muscles get more tense and tired. Stretching helps your body to stay flexible, feel better the next day, and recover faster. Make sure to look up proper stretches to prevent injury.

Foam Rolling

Foam rollers are great to make muscles more flexible and nimble, because their break up old scar tissue and muscle knots. Plus, the massaging motion increases blood flow so you’ll feel great and ready for more afterwards.

Cherry Juice

If you’re stiff as a board or sore all-over, try drinking tart cherry juice. It’s been shown to help with workout recovery and feeling refreshed after tough workouts. Bonus tip: Curcumin supplements can have similar beneficial effects.

Skip Booze

More alcohol means more time in the bathroom which means your body is less hydrated – and that doesn’t bode well for post-workout recovery and muscle growth. Plus all those carbs can set you back. So skip happy hour or opt for non-alcoholic drinks.

Massages

Deep tissue massages (and most other types of massage) can help to relax your body, feel better, and relief tight muscles. Plus, lower stress levels can positively contribute to overall health and well-being, so there’s a lot to gain from a pro back-rub.

Cold Baths / Hot Baths

Pick your poison: Hot baths can help to relax your muscles and chill after a tough training sessions. Cold baths, immediately after exercise, can improve muscle recovery. So maybe opt for an ice-cold body plunge post-workout, followed by a regular bath at night.
